   I wonder why Rumiko Takahashi made Akane into some unlikable violent shit and expects readers of the Ranma manga to like her just because this or that happened
   Shampoo and Ukyo are more likable to be honest

     Her and Ranma were literally set-up to be in an antagonistic relationship and remain "frienimies" through the series.
     
     Just like in Urasei Yatsura, Ataru is a letch who hits on all women who aren't Lum, for which he gets endlessly zapped by ~cha.
     
     Both series were also some of the more widespread releases in the U.S. before the internet, and hold a special place in early American Japanimation fans.
