   Maybe worth reminding frens & family to rotate their food stores if they only got into preps in the 2020-21 era. Stuff should be expiring now but it’s still good enough.

   My chick complained saying “ugh what mexi shop you buy these poptarts from? Why’d you hide ‘em from me” and I realized I haven’t bought any in forever.

   No wonder they’re bad, they’re from 2019.

     She doesn’t eat the “crusts” on her poptarts, either. I know she doesn’t like them, but she pretends she does it to feed the chickens.

     @HWABAG @Leaflord Cartoons as a kid, adverts making them look exciting and fun. Lazy parents buy them as a ready made no-prep out the door breakfast. People like sugary desserts that masquerade as normal food.

     Usually along those lines. If you eat something as a kid you cut it a lot of slack, few people take a step back to notice whether they’re actually liking something or not

     @berkberkman Making one negates the prime feature of a pop tart: no fuss sugar with just enough flour to provide filler.

     We’re not big on cooking still, it’s a pain in the ass for 2 people so she’s fallen into my lazy bachelor style of cooking & reheating, having handy vegetables & meats, etc. Like I’m cooking some pot roast today but it’s likely gonna end up in the fridge, eating a tidbit at a time, whenever we wanna snack a bit.

     There's your problem. No wonder she's not finishing it. Look at those ingredients. I often get tempted to buy one of the chocolate chip flavors, but I look at the back and then just skip it. I'd rather make one myself.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot I often look for copycat attempts without the artificial crap, but they're not easy to find, especially locally. If it's available, you'd have to drive far to get it. Even then, it's not cheap.

     @berkberkman first one actually looks pretty good. I like to keep poptarts in storage because they last kinda long, and they aren’t tasty enough that the kids all go hunting them down. Should we ever have to live off the storage for a while though, a poptart will become a luxurious dessert.

     I could probably write a whole bunch about the dynamics of food storage selection, because people always choose crap they don’t want to eat that’s too much trouble to cook, and end up with 20 year old garbage they throw away instead of rotating out and through

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @berkberkman it's always funny i buy something sometimes with the intention of making a dish, then it sits there cuz it eat the easier or more tasty stuff first, then before you know it, it's time for another grocery trip and i get more easy stuff to cook that i go through first, and that bag of beans sits there.

     @Zealist @berkberkman Yeah, I’m honest about it. Everyone shits on goyslop but nobody has 17 hours a week to obsess over food unless they’re a hobbyist over it. We know it’s unhealthy, we’ll still buy it b/c it’s cheap enough and does the job. Probably the same thing w/ porn, where everyone pretends to have nothing to do with it but it’s an ongoing addiction. Easier to talk about tapering off than to fully beat the thing for good.

     @Zealist @WashedOutGundamPilot @berkberkman I try to do some long term stuff that will mix with the lazy stuff. I'll keep some canned soup if I'm feeling lazy, so I get stuff that goes well with rice or beans for example.

     @Zealist @WashedOutGundamPilot @berkberkman The problem with beans is they taste like shit by themselves. You also need fresh herbs, dried herbs, peppers, onions, sausage, lime, vinegar, salt, and smoked meat to make a decent pot you'll actually want to eat
