My mom in law was a nurse her whole life in American Healthcare. My FIL was career air force. They spent a good chunk of his career in Europe. My mom in law was not impressed by what ahe saw (this was in the 80's).
Two of my extended family members died on waiting lists for things they would have been seen for immediately in the states.
Just to say that each approach has plusses and minuses and that the normie tier takes aren't wrong. Public Healthcare won't break.the bank but access is uncertain whereas for profit almost guarantees access but often at a steep cost.

@JoshuaSlocum @Paleface @Escoffier @greentext I'm not gonna talk numbers because tbqh they're impossible to get and that's boring anyway, I just want to explain the perverse incentives built into the system and make one or two suggestions on what can be done better (no one will listen anyway, but that's OK)
-
@JoshuaSlocum @Paleface @Escoffier @greentext Dude, it's a lot to cover. The Amerikwan sickcare system is a shitshow
-
@TrevorGoodchild @Paleface @Escoffier @greentext yeah, it's one of the biggest pains in my ass
few years ago i decided i was going to go all datanerd on it, try to see what tf was up
like, what would it generally even cost, in broadly round numbers that have some basis in reality, to just make it a public service
gave up because it's next to impossible to even get good numbers
anything publicly available has the stink of politics all over it, and government numbers are incompetent lies at best
it's gotten worse as the industry has consolidated

Haven't heard of anyone who had problems with having to wait for any sort of treatment so far, but maybe my friends are all just too healthy. Here it's a mandatory insurance scheme where insurance is then extremely cheap with a small co-payment and health care prices are regulated. I know someone who walked into a hospital feeling unwell and left two weeks later with a quadruple bypass and paid a total of 500 euros.
What you pay extra for is comfort, the basic insurance is in a shared room for example, you can pay extra insurance or out of pocket for a private one, but then the prices are not regulated and sometimes doctors will charge ten times as much.

@Paleface @Escoffier @greentext I still need to write this effortpoast, and now I feel guilty

@TrevorGoodchild @JoshuaSlocum @Paleface @Escoffier @greentext From what I understand, the main reason healthcare is so fucking expensive in Burgerland is that the system essentially consists of a cartel of massive hospital networks, who collude to rip off insurance providers at every turn, who in turn rip off their subscribers through ever increasing deductibles and higher co-pays/fees
-
@DW2 @JoshuaSlocum @Paleface @Escoffier @greentext Oh but it gets so much worse
-
@TrevorGoodchild @JoshuaSlocum @Paleface @Escoffier @greentext man you could say that about so many things in Modern America
-
@sickburnbro @DW2 @JoshuaSlocum @Paleface @Escoffier @greentext Was gonna ask if people know what EMTALA is but you beat me to it
-
@TrevorGoodchild @DW2 @JoshuaSlocum @Paleface @Escoffier @greentext but on the positive side, it means once we get rid of 120 million invaders, there will be a lot of breathing room to fix things.
-
@TrevorGoodchild @DW2 @JoshuaSlocum @Paleface @Escoffier @greentext millions of illegals + free emergency room care means that it's a game that is hard to win.
-
@sickburnbro @TrevorGoodchild @JoshuaSlocum @Paleface @Escoffier @greentext I can’t wait til the phrase “Population Exchange” enters the normie lexicon
-
@sickburnbro @TrevorGoodchild @JoshuaSlocum @Paleface @Escoffier @greentext in addition to removing the squatimalans, red areas will need to be cleansed of blue locusts colonizers
-
@DW2 @TrevorGoodchild @JoshuaSlocum @Paleface @Escoffier @greentext "remigration" is the new "rehoming"
-
@DW2 @sickburnbro @JoshuaSlocum @Paleface @Escoffier @greentext :wojak: "But you just can't DO that."
:giga_chad: "Greece and Turkey did with minimal issues. It worked fine."
:wojak: " . . . R-really . . .?"
-
@TrevorGoodchild @sickburnbro @JoshuaSlocum @Paleface @Escoffier @greentext “Yes, now get on the cattle car destined for San Francisco“ :chad0:

having worked under the hood as far as drug pricing goes inside hospitals it is far more capricious than many imagine
-
@DW2 @TrevorGoodchild @JoshuaSlocum @Paleface @Escoffier @greentext that's why I'm still thinking spanish civil war.
But honestly there is a chance of a saner path, it's basically everyone that put up BLM or "I fuckin love science" signs have a public humiliation ritual and they get convinced to go elsewhere.
-
@sickburnbro @TrevorGoodchild @JoshuaSlocum @Paleface @Escoffier @greentext unfortunately it’s hard to reason with people who think that men can get pregnant
-
@sickburnbro @TrevorGoodchild @JoshuaSlocum @Paleface @Escoffier @greentext maybe 40 years ago, but now it’s better suited as a repatriation center for smug subversive Cali shitlibs
-
@DW2 @TrevorGoodchild @JoshuaSlocum @Paleface @Escoffier @greentext whoa, SF is too nice to waste on that.
-
Health care pricing in the US is insane. Forcing a single price for each product, service or treatment which is clearly published would solve a lot of problems and would be fairly cheap politically.
-
@Paleface @Cleisthenes @greentext @Escoffier @JoshuaSlocum @TrevorGoodchild yeah but then the wall street heebs can’t rent seek via publicly traded health insurance companies, and we can’t have that now can we
-
@Paleface @Cleisthenes @greentext @DW2 @Escoffier @TrevorGoodchild people used to joke that pricing for Oracle was "what's your revenue? we'll take 30% of that", and then turn the customer upside down to shake out any spare change in their pockets, for "support"
healthcare works the same, but they can dig through the pockets of your family too
