I like how the church is portrayed in the nasuverse, especially in recent entries, the "church is evil" shit is stupid and just a forced meme from western fags who cant think for more than 1 sec and have their entire head shoved up their anal cavity frfr. Like the only times they do nasty shit is when caren brings up the weird rape shit from the abbeys where she had no issue sleeping around for bodily pleasures with fellow church members and muh extorcisms, but caren is just weird overall lol. And theres the whole perpetual torturing and killing of ciel for like a month straight, but tbf thats less of them being sadistic and more "wtf this bitch is supposed to be dead, why does she keep reviving??" And they eventually recruited her :Cirno_Shrug: then theres kirei, but hes hardly a representative of the church, hes just an individual that sought to mend his evil ways through church but kinda gave up and gave in to his real self (based nigga). So that aside, the church is a pretty good organization when you take into account what it does, ie hunt down mages that go rogue, try to suppress magecrafts public presence, hunt down dead apostles, open hospitals and humanitarian organizations, help out victims of mages and dead apostles, keep the public out of supernatural harm/accidents, sure they can be ruthless but thats a requirement when dealing with all the mage bs you see, and even then its not the same as being sadistic, when noel starts torturing the undead and DAs mario tells her to stop it else she'll be suspended for unnecessary violence, overall mario and his team are a good representation of the church id say, hes sent to a country where theres barely catholics (japan) to protect them from roa, sure he also wants to interrogate roa for his grandfathers sake, but that doesnt stop him from doing his job and protecting japan and trying to deescalate fights that might put the city in danger, and he helps you out a number of times and trying to send noel back for the shit she does. Also when you contrast the church to the mages association you get a clearer picture, those mfs main goal is just "reaching muh root" a fruitless endeavor that benefits no one, and when any mage makes a great discovery they hunt him down and basically lock him up for research purposes, they only intervene with magical accidents and rogue mages when it affects them, ie word of magecraft reaches the public, and their false idea that magecraft gets weaker when more people are aware of it is wrong. they have no issue with rogue mages killing people so long as word doesnt get out to the public, also their weird maniacal obsession with the root has them doing some weird ritualistic shit and customs, its overall ass to be part of them, best option is being a solo mage haha.

So yeah, church good, theres more good church members than bad ones if you think about it, like kirei is the only antagonistic church member, and maybe noel depending on the route, but shes less evil and more traumatized with her obsession with DAs, the rest of the church members are straight up on your side/side of humanity
