I worry that the end-game of this "social media is the problem" rhetoric is that it justifies micro-management legislation (age verification / real ID requirements, and much worse) in the name of solving it.

  Stop saying the problem is social media. It's algos that serve profit over users (especially kids) and the public interest. The fedi lets people find community beyond their local network and it lets us build a media infrastructure outside of corporate ownership and the demands of advertisers. #SocialWeb
