     @nixCraft I used TFS (visual sourcesafe) back in the day and honestly it wasn't bad. Many of the collaborative issues Git has simply didn't exist in TFS.

     The open and distributed nature of Git is objectively better but so many issues beginners struggle with on Git didn't happen on TFS at all.

     @nixCraft printed out on paper, sorted in binders. Multiple copies, with at least one every three months for active projects. (not a joke by the way, I helped cleaning up a cabinet a couple of years ago, filled with printouts. We threw out many meters of printed pages of code. Some of it was even clearly dot matrix printer paper)
     And before that of course on punch cards, with comments written on the actual cards.

     @nixCraft I moved from floppy disks and hard drives to some site called 'planet-source-code.com'. Later switched to Subversion (SVN).
