Tf is wrong with games these days? Has the industry just been gutted? Every new game since covid has been barely playable at launch and there seems to be zero quality control. What's going on??? I was looking forward to CoH3 too.

@Samhydeigger Anyone get Octopath Traveler 2? Is it like the first or did Squeenix ruin it with gay shit?

@ArdainianRight @Samhydeigger enjoyed the demo as the scholar and trader. Will wait a day or two for reviews before I jump in though.

It was getting bad before COVID and for an obvious reason: the people who would have given a shit were being treated like shit or not getting paid. It's blatantly obvious with some cases, like from CoD4 to MW2 to MW3 (where the devs of MW2 got shoved out after a dispute) or with 343 era Halo.
But it's also a major cultural shift that's been talked about elsewhere. The older games were made by a bunch of dudes (usually of the local ethnic population) who were into some stuff and decided "we should make a game based on/influenced by what we really love and make it unique". The newer games are made by different crowds, namely the college kids who wanted to get into gamedev to get rich and think it makes them famous somewhere, the midwits and middle managers of the world, the HR department, and the focus groups. The older guys didn't go to full sail for 4 years to make an indie game, they just made them.
