   To me one funny thing about docker/flathub/… is *all* app stores had to learn that some level of curation is needed to avoid malware.
   
   It's not even a FOSS issue at this point.

     Really wish corporate-friendly opensource didn't leave me digging through a pile of unfinished projects to find the good ones! "Is it in the Debian repos" is a huge timesaving hueristic...

     @alcinnz (sarcasm noted but still) Free speech argument would only work for actual App Stores where you have no rights, not ones where adding a third-party repo is trivial or where there's about a hundred repositories.

     @alcinnz And yeah, for finding actually useful software I typically use the distro repositories but that's more a side-effect of voluntary packagers rather than an actual goal.

     @lanodan Sigh, there's such an opposition amongst a certain crowd against curation. As best as I can tell it's tied into the "dataism" philosophy, but I'm not grasping them well.

     I'm certainly not convinced that curation is bad, and the alternatives are definitely worse!

     @alcinnz I'm the kind that thinks caring, sharing and remixing is natural.
     In fact, Philosophers used thesis/anti-thesis/synthesis to express this kind of idea.
     
     And without that kind of thing you end up with heaps of useless remnants of the past (some people would call that trash) or things like the library of Babel.
     
     On that note, I'm taking out the trash :D
