   I wonder how illegal it would be if you opened up a VHS rental store today, and had unofficial VHS copies of modern films, dubbed from either Netflix or uhd 4k blurays

     I'd be paying for a bluray per VHS tap, so I didn't make any extra "copies".
     And you can't DMCA me: it's not digital.

     @griibor not really. VHS tapes are helical scan rather than linear like compact cassettes, so you can't really make an adapter

     @foone Think you could fit a tape head inside of a VHS to write onto an endless-loop in close to real time?

     Like one of those compact cassette to 3.5mm adapters.
