     @meso@the.asbestos.cafe the projectiles in shotgun shells that actually go downrange are called "shot". Unless it's a slug. Then it's just a slug.
     
     The plastic (or less commonly paper) bit above the powder that holds the shot in a shell is a cup or shotcup
     
     Cut one in half lengthwise sometime. They're cool.

     @Rocc@misskey.bubbletea.dev @meso@the.asbestos.cafe Slugs are also Shots. Unless it's not a sphere shape. Shotguns are cannons.

     @Rocc@misskey.bubbletea.dev @meso@the.asbestos.cafe I just checked what they looked like. Yeah, that's the equivalent of shoving minie balls in a musket. I was wrong, I guess is not shot, it's bullet, therefore it can't be called shotgun or cannon anymore since somehow the slug rifles the barrel.😕
     But I'm sure they melt the lead under a fire and used these castings to make shot, not whatever you said.
     You can probably just fit a Musket Shot in a shotgun casing and that basically functions as a Slug. I have a personal distaste for the tiny shots in buckshot and so on.

     They used to just drop molten lead down a big tower to form shot. It would form and harden on the way down.
     
     Nowadays it's done more precisely with a different mechanical process that allows more precise control of the diameter.
