     @sickburnbro @sapphire Alcohol is hated by many in America because of a lack of a public drinking culture that has given way to secret alcoholism. Some seedy bar is no replacement for getting a glass of beer and a pretzel on your way to work.

     @sickburnbro @sapphire Even before they got the "right" to vote they pushed "temperance". If someone looks at the history of 20th century America and doesn't come to the conclusion that women shouldn't be ignored or punished when they say something stupid or attempt to assert authority in the public sphere, they aren't gonna make it.

     @sapphire given how much drug usage in general has exploded, it seems silly to claim that alcohol is on the way out.
     
     Drugs, including alcohol have been used for multiple purposes, but I think the communal aspect to alcohol is the most interesting.

     @sickburnbro honestly we’re on the cusp of a post-alcohol society, at least as a necessity. People made alcohol because for most of history in a lot of places water was borderline undrinkable, and because grains don’t keep over winter

     @sickburnbro IDK if it's just my bubble but I see social drinking cut in half, at least if we go by the last 10 years. It's like all the "sometimes" guys either quit altogether or became "always" guys

     I could see that trend continue if younger generations cease to believe it can be enjoyed with any moderation...it pretty much already did for a lot of other drugs.
