   So I decided to look up who is behind those fucking Ukranian spam instances following everyone on the goddamn fedi and I found out one source is literally a nonprofit trying to fund "decentralized" shit named equalit.ie in fact they even have their email listed as who runs that spammy instance.

   The fact they're using goddamn mastodon and following EVERYONE on the fedi shows how much they know about the fedi. The fact their instances aren't taking off shows how much Ukranians would rather use TG/Twitter over this.

     The whole reason they have so many spammy servers also comes down to, they're trying to set them up in different parts of Ukraine in case the next one gets shelled/has power outages again.
     
     Except they're literally using tons of subdomains, which creates complexity. This is something that you'd only normally run into on NO-IP/DDNS, and why aren't they following relays instead of trying to use crawlers? Do they not know that crawlers are frowned upon behavior on the fedi?

     1.) Subscribe to relay.
     2.) User posts to relay.
     3.) Find User.
     4.) Follow user.
     5.) Load profile.
     6.) Go to follower/following list
     7. Go to step 3.

     It reminds me of the early groups pushing for Tor in China and the like, except they are utterly clueless at how to get people to use this new decentralized tech or why people should care.
     
     People use VPNs in China for two reasons: communicating with sites blocked and porn/piracy. People don't want to overthrow Xi as much as they want to beat their meat or talk to the outside world.

     Well, the same kind of bots appeared on different instance (soc-ua.fediland.de, operated by a 17 yo kid in Poland) a month prior or so, so I'm inclined to believe someone just felt like trolling hohols. Even have an idea who's behind it, but can't confirm due to lack of contacts.
