Wolfgirl in Wheatfield (wgiwf@poa.st)'s status on Sunday, 02-Jun-2024 13:06:26 JST Wolfgirl in Wheatfield @SuperSnekFriend It's rather disheartening to see a bunch of NCD people in a thread say that you don't need to be baptized when someone asks if they need to be. Even coming from an ostensibly baptist persuasion (as many of them claim to be) one should do so. -
Jon (insomnolant@wolfgirl.bar)'s status on Sunday, 02-Jun-2024 13:06:25 JST Jon @wgiwf @SuperSnekFriend You should get baptized, because Jesus told us to, and if we worship Him, we should do what He says. But He also told us to do many things which we shall fail to do, and that doesn't mean we aren't saved, because it is through Grace that we're saved by Faith.
That being said, it's very easy to obey this example Jesus set for us, so just do it, for Him. At the same time, don't make an idol (i.e. a necessity for salvation) out of following Jesus' commandments perfectly, because we've all failed that metric.

Whether you take the baptist view of baptism or not, there is no reason to not go through with the act that is commanded of you. The only people who really have an excuse is maybe some guy in Saudi Arabia who if found out would be executed or something for being baptized. New Janny in Town likes this. -

Wolfgirl in Wheatfield (wgiwf@poa.st)'s status on Sunday, 02-Jun-2024 13:23:51 JST Wolfgirl in Wheatfield @Insomnolant @SuperSnekFriend Yes. There's also a time and a place for such things. But if every Christian refused to step on the Fumi-e it would've died out in Japan pre-Perry. Not counter signalling, just that discretion is needed. It would best for the hypothetical Arab convert to find others of his kind and build something with them if possible than becoming a newsblurb that is forgotten about. New Janny in Town likes this. -
Jon (insomnolant@wolfgirl.bar)'s status on Sunday, 02-Jun-2024 13:23:52 JST Jon @wgiwf @SuperSnekFriend Honestly, when you take Matthew 16:25 into account, that's all the more reason to go through with it. There's going to be a time when standing with Christ means accepting death, and it's very important to decide ahead of time which side of that choice you're on.
Don't choose life in this world over eternal life.
