     other projects did it way better.
     gemini home entertainment for instance, had an actual alien threat trying to take over earth and it's established that they mimick humans and make videos in order to lure people into their lair.
     there's even a video game that you can play associated with it which adds to the horror aspect.
     
     local 58 has the.... moon? and some random monster that's brought up once then never again I guess? I don't really get it tbh

     It's the raw and murky "found footage" nature of the video that makes it seem authentic or plausibly real, as opposed to some slick CG or special effects flick.

     The fact it has a playable game with a fuckton of easter eggs and different endings alone sets it apart from the rest.
