All European culture is a Hegelian dialectic between Aristotle and Plato, every religious, philosophical and ideological movement follows these.

The Aristotle Plato Dialog prefigures all philosophy as its the fundamental epistemic divide. Platonism asserts that the faculties, like the man, are flawed. Aristotle prefigures functioning faculties and thusly relying on them.
The Christian option here is obvious, which is why scholasticism was not retained with Protestantism, which returned to a Platonic view of faith (divine revelation only).
This dialectic is actually the entire dialectic of European civilization, Spengler nearly grasps this. It's hegelian.
