menherahair (menherahair@eientei.org)'s status on Tuesday, 28-May-2024 21:48:42 JST menherahair @sysrq @MK2boogaloo @kirby it seems like normal auxiliary do. when you're using it as an emphatic operator it does expect a verb next:
> I hate germans - You *do* hate germans
and you wouldn't use it with copular be:
> I am in a thread - You *do* are in a thread???
but it's not what kero's doing here, and then the purpose of auxiliary "do" is to omit the verb, so he's free to butcher the language (tabun maybe (I dropped out of linguistics))- New Janny in Town likes this.

if you say "so do you"
it's an accusatory response
in the context of someone performing an actionNew Janny in Town likes this. -
menherahair (menherahair@eientei.org)'s status on Tuesday, 28-May-2024 22:28:55 JST menherahair @Ashurbanipal @MK2boogaloo @kirby @sysrq works fine with no action
> He comes from germany. - So do you.New Janny in Town likes this. -
menherahair (menherahair@eientei.org)'s status on Tuesday, 28-May-2024 22:45:28 JST menherahair @Ashurbanipal @MK2boogaloo @kirby @sysrq it's a copular verb, the whole point of it is that it doesn't introduce an action. you can't use it in progressive aspect:
> He comes from germany. - He is coming from germany <-- fucking wrong
if you want it to be an action then copular be also should be one
> He is in a thread. - He is being in a thread <-- also retarded
and then by your logic "so do you" would be a correct accusatory response to itNew Janny in Town likes this. -
