Gerfand (gerfand@poa.st)'s status on Monday, 27-May-2024 16:12:09 JST Gerfand Nafo trying to justify Ukraine attacking over the horizon radars in Russia is the funniest thing ever. -
Gerfand (gerfand@poa.st)'s status on Monday, 27-May-2024 16:12:09 JST Gerfand At least one can argue black sea fleet being removed helps with Ukraine exports ... But we talking about radars that are for weapons Ukraine lacks in places Ukraine has no way from attacking from New Janny in Town likes this. -
Gerfand (gerfand@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 29-May-2024 18:55:54 JST Gerfand @Jens_Rasmussen @Groomschild Since I dropped from college before this part I cannot ssy why it doesnt happen, however my guess is that you don't want to have your radar doing certain things.
For one you don't want it locating your own traffic since that is irrelevant information. Then you have thr part og being over horizon, not magical so you want it strategically located to cover an area, etc -
Jens_Rasmussen (jens_rasmussen@nicecrew.digital)'s status on Wednesday, 29-May-2024 18:55:54 JST Jens_Rasmussen Radars will pick up your own traffic all the time, I would assume. And it can probably still be directed even if it has 360 degree capabilities. -
Groomschild (groomschild@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 29-May-2024 18:55:55 JST Groomschild @Gerfand @Jens_Rasmussen Yeah OHR are to big to put on a rotating mount and you can't make a 360 version since the radio waves from such a powerful device will turm the local environment into a microwave

Jens_Rasmussen (jens_rasmussen@nicecrew.digital)'s status on Wednesday, 29-May-2024 18:55:55 JST Jens_Rasmussen I don't mean rotating, but rather that they are built to be able to search 360 degrees from the beginning. -
Jens_Rasmussen (jens_rasmussen@nicecrew.digital)'s status on Wednesday, 29-May-2024 18:55:56 JST Jens_Rasmussen I thought most of those installations had 360 degree coverage. My mistake. -
Gerfand (gerfand@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 29-May-2024 18:55:56 JST Gerfand @Jens_Rasmussen oh no, Over Horizon Radar are more often than not very linear... there was one near Chernobyl I think that was a literal wall of antenas -
Gerfand (gerfand@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 29-May-2024 18:55:57 JST Gerfand @Jens_Rasmussen those radar do not even point into Ukraine tho -
Jens_Rasmussen (jens_rasmussen@nicecrew.digital)'s status on Wednesday, 29-May-2024 18:55:58 JST Jens_Rasmussen It makes sense if you believe that Ukraine will have their airfleet somewhat replenished later this year, which is the belief among western leaders. -
Groomschild (groomschild@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 29-May-2024 18:56:25 JST Groomschild @Jens_Rasmussen @Gerfand think about it like you are at a concert. if you are facing the stage you can only hear the music. but even if you look backwards the best you can understand from other people is hand gestures. which is kind of how long distance radar works
