   so what exactly is the display tech in the daylight dc-1? high res monochrome lcd with the backlight removed/replaced with something transflective?

     @mntmn I think first time I saw something like that on Pebble watch back then. If I remember correctly it was LCD with transreflective layers behind and state memory for saving battery life.
