     1980s: Personal computers! So you don't have to use a mainframe! Independence!

     2000s: Web services! So you're dependent on a handful of mainframes! Annoying if one is offline, but you can still get stuff done.

     2020s: AI! So you're dependent on a single mainframe that serves everyone world-wide! Too bad if it goes down.
