   Purely naming-wise I think OpenGL is the best name for graphics API. I'd rate Metal as the worst. Purely because it has the very high chance of causing confusion. Are we talking about music? Material? A library for rendering metallic items? Does it mean it talks directly to metal? I though it's mostly silicon at center of things?

     @alcinnz a random and not frequently used word is not particulary bad option. Not descriptive at all, but at least not confusing either.
