@Cayhr@SnugSmug@Meemoo The real problem is that people wanted that FFVII remake back when they showed off that PS3 techdemo at E3 in 2005.
TWO. THOUSEND. FIVE.
They were almost two decades too late with that reboot. Most people that cared about FFVII are in their late 30's, early 40's and don't give a shit about it anymore.
@Tamamo This is also true. That reminds me of when people wanted PSO2 access to the west, it just didn’t happen. So the fans that cared enough played on the JP servers. But then SEGA in their infinite wisdom IP restricted JP and gave the west a shitty censored version. So now not only did people move on, the ones that cared enough already had sunk time (and money) into the JP version.
@Tamamo@Cayhr@Meemoo@SnugSmug same issue with kingdom hearts 3. Well that and no one using a whip on the lead director and writer to keep his tism in check.
@Tamamo@Azur_Fenix@Cayhr@Meemoo@SnugSmug Don't forget that the recent releases of entire Kingdom Hearts series requires an Internet connection at all times, despite being a single-player game without any good online features.
@Meemoo@Azur_Fenix@Cayhr@SnugSmug@berkberkman I still think its because its too little too late. People were losing their shit over that tech demo back then. The iron was hot for a remake announcement.
What also doesn't help: 1 year Pozzstation exclusivity, 1 year Epic game store exclusivity on PC. Plus the retarded decision to make it episodic.
In some interview with CDPR they said the average attach rate for DLC expansion's in The Witcher and Cyberpunk is roughly 20%. Pretty much lines up with the numbers in the OP.
I guess squeenix finally figured out why the episodic game release fad died over 15 years ago: people hated it and often skipped buying the first game once it was announced to be episodic and rather waited for all games to be released before buying.
@Tamamo@Azur_Fenix@Cayhr@SnugSmug@berkberkman know what the icing on the cake is to all of this? You can't play the remake if you're a complete newbie to FF7. Yes, those nips were so retarded that they made it so you have to play the OG, CC, AC, and dirge of Cerberus just so you're allowed the privilege of understanding their time janny ghost bullshit. No wonder the games are flopping incredibly hard.
Even back then you were expected to play the previous games before remake. The DLC demands dirge of cerberus because it takes plotpoints from that game.
It's not really a sequel either it's more of a soft reboot. They rebooted the fucking game and deviated from established lore. It serves them right to see sales tank for rebirth.
They would have sold 10 gigachadillion copies if they simply updated the fidelity of the original graphics and music, left an original OST option, and changed fucking nothing else.
@Tamamo@Cayhr@SnugSmug people actually wanted a remake, sales are shit because it wasn't a remake.
They scammed people with the first entry and that made everyone wisen up to what scheme square is up to. This is why Rebirth couldn't even break 3 million sales if speculation about recent shareholder reports is anything to believe
@Meemoo@Tamamo@Cayhr@SnugSmug Japanese boomers are fucking retarded thinking they can pull shit off like this and get away with it like we are still living in 2009 :cirno_facepalm:
@Meemoo@Tamamo@Cayhr@SnugSmug They had one fucking job I might have even bought the OG AND the remake if they did as such, but instead they decided to pull a marvel multiverse bullshit.
The real problem with FF7 is that it isn't a "normie" game. Back in the day FF games were highly anticipated from the average gamer. Now to get into FF7 remake you need to invest in a multiple part remake which is the most unnormie shit ever, it demands people willing to invest time into it and the original FF7 AND be willing to wait several years for the next installment.
The moment that killed the FF7 momentum was when the first game ended and it became painfully obvious this was gonna be a 10 part remake series. The average player in the back of their mind are gonna be thinking "oh next game will be kalm through gold saucer shit we're not gonna get to the 2nd disc in at least 3 more parts WTF."
In the original game midgar was the way the story gripped the player. The vibe of midgar was so entirely different from previous games and other RPGs. When midgar ended the game opened up and we were given a clear focus and mission. It didn't matter that other towns weren't as interesting, we didn't have to wait years to move to the next town and each town gets their own story arcs that develop the world of FF7. What are the hooks in the story for each part of the remakes? Remake is dead in the water and may be fucked. :back_from_gab: 7h0h72jobpj61.jpg
