You want to have a "personal relationship" with Jesus? Read your Bible. The word is God, the words are living. They are compared to water and food for your spirit.

Now the unsaved cannot understand scripture because they do not have the holy Ghost to guide them. That is why they love "theology" and man-made written nonsense.
