Dude, my Linux install on the Windows PC (it's a dualboot, two HDDs) is seemingly broken as fuck. I have the computer just in idle, I'm across the apartment at my main Linux box (the good one, ol faithful) and I'm watching this install randomly reboot itself for no good fking reason every 20 minutes, it's fascinating. Lubuntu has serious issues with that machine for some odd reason. Don't waste your time making distro recommend, that install was just for games and compiling ARM images, nothing serious.

@gnarley_boot @realman543 Maybe there is more software out there for linux for audio.

W10, my buddy set it up for me a couple years back and he defanged it, I also did some enhancements like disabling spectre/meltdown mitigations to give my i5 an extra punch. Shit is very reliable and I have extremely low latency with ASIO4ALL.

I can eventually adopt a Linux workflow with audio using Renoise but I need to purchase it first so I can get the Linux binary. However I'd be limited in VST options, but I have Vital on Linux and that's all I really need. Mastering audio would still have to been done on the Windows box.

@gnarley_boot What version if I might ask?

@gnarley_boot >Don't waste your time making distro recommend
I'm happy to waste time for fren (even tho i should be sleeping rn)
>Uninstall Windows
>Send Bill Gates strongly worded "fuck you"
>install VM if absolutely necessary
Windows is only going to get worse fyi

My windows install is strickly for audio production, it's not connected to the internet. I will never update it, it's frozen in time and there to serve me.

The only source of internet at my apartment is my Pinephone (mobile internet), everything is airgapped.

@gnarley_boot IDK what service pack you use but you know that W10 has a "feature" that allows it to access the internet even if it's just hooked up to a router right? I forget what they called it some stupid bullshit to "pull updates".
Do you have access to the, ack I'm blanking on the name but that control panel for changing user settings for the computer. Not regedit. Something else I am totally blanking on but it has like "Windows", "computer" etc? Any idea what I am talking about?
Well if you do have access you need to set the windows update urls to something made up. I found this out the hard way when my W10 VM started updating out of nowhere. This may be your case, IDK. Something to look into.
Bare minimum I'd check installed updates to see if it's installed anything you didn't want. Installed programs could work too but in W10s default UI it separates them. You can get this functionality back but it's a pain in the ass and the software I used WAAAAY back (I think it's classic shell) is paid-after-time now.

I had to literally restrict my internet to slow shitty pinephone to fix it. This is why Windows has been more useful to me as of late because it's super easy to bring in outside software to use from a USB stick. Linux on the other hand is not so easy, that why before I made this decision I filled my Linux box with every tool-chain, library and software I could think possible in the case that I need to add something. Also I can just run an appimage if it gets down to it. But I'm pretty set, my build of Mixxx runs phenomenonly well, it's honestly impressive and I get frustrated at my DJ friend who talks down Mixxx like it's shit software when his Serato is kind of ass in my opinion unless you're using it on a Mac.

Saves me money and helped to curb my fucking around on the net and be more productive issue.

@gnarley_boot 🥂
I have what some might call terminal fucking around syndrome. Finding out has not solved it. I am working on it.

@gnarley_boot Good system.
