LSvery interesting article about "quitting your passion" (generally art), mostly about how having a regular job that pays the bills while still working on your passion is a good approach for many people.
Reminds me of two things:
1. Einstein got a job at the patent office because he (correctly) thought that it was easy work and would leave him lots of time for thinking. Apparently he only had to work a few hours per day and could spend essentially a full day working on special relativity.
2. More personal, I studied japanese studies and how to afford going to japan was a constant topic among the students. Meanwhile the CS people got paid internships in japan because they actually had skills that were valuable to the people there. So maybe studying japanese studies wasn't actually the best way to actually do japanese studies.
@lain in my experience this narrative about getting a day job to work on your passions around it is kind of bullshit and only applies to a small exception of workers
