Rhey already have a biological disadvantage by default youd expect them to take things 200% more seriously :sip_cat:Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this. -
Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks (washedoutgundampilot@poa.st)'s status on Monday, 20-Feb-2023 08:58:23 JST Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks @rlier23 My chief complaint with women in the cockpit is that they suffer terribly when they need to step up and act. Female bodies aren’t as resilient under adrenaline as we are. When you hear a loud thud and see a spray of oil out the windscreen, a man will get sharper, faster, he’ll act better, and he’ll have about 3-5 minutes of improved performance to take care of the most critical aspects of the emergency. Then over the next hour, even more, he’ll remain functional enough to see it through.
Women don’t have that luxury, adrenaline only enhances their performance for the first minute or so, then it starts affecting them too much, and before you know it they’re hyperfocusing on the wrong thing, shaking, focusing their attention outside the emergency on meta-thought, and falling apart even worse once that initial stimulant wears off.
It’s just shitty how the industry pretends there’s zero innate diff. between us, it’s so obviously incorrect when you see difficult, scary, life-or-death things in front of you only to return to safety and hear “oh yeah that was a one-off, women could totally do what you did even if she just sat there staring the whole time”

I remember a time years ago it started raining very, very hard- a deluge- the kind of thing that makes flash floods. It was so bad that the road was flooding. I took a detour and was laughing wildly in the zone of crystalized time, focused in a way I still remember to this day... she shut down and was mostly just watching me in awe. They’ll sit there reading the same checklist point over and over, because in their head they’re thinking about everything BUT the work. Thinking about dying, thinking about how people will treat them, thinking about how much trouble they’ll be in….all while they keep rereading something you did 50 seconds ago

lessthan0 (lessthan0@chudbuds.lol)'s status on Monday, 20-Feb-2023 09:03:09 JST lessthan0 I know a lot of non combat female pilots...emphasis on NON COMBAT FEMALE PILOTS...a few of them were pushed into combat roles but failed miserably in the combat Sims...they know their role & never wanted to engage in combat situs... On average, they’re generally okay. I find the best are about B+ at most, but most are comfortably around C+ to B. I have some complaints about them, but a lot can be pared down to the fact that female pilots don’t LOVE flying like the men do.
Guys will devour information and go deeper into things than they have to. Girls are more mercenary, they’re in it for the personal branding, the ego, the idea of being the cool traveling captain chick. They’ll learn the bare minimum and call it good forever.
We keep getting a lot of them, where their daddy’s a captain and paying their way and she just wants to get big on instagram and stay in 4-star hotels (b/c they never pay attention and note that most of their stops are cleveland, topeka, tulsa, and Albuquerque - not hawaii, miami, and san diego)
I do tend to get along pretty well with the gen X lady pilots, they kind of got in when they had to prove enough competency to get ahead. Things didn’t get bad until the last 5-8 years in terms of “well, is she a fail? We can’t afford to wash her out….that would look really bad.”

CoQ_10 (coq_10@poa.st)'s status on Monday, 20-Feb-2023 09:19:18 JST CoQ_10 @WashedOutGundamPilot @rlier23 I always thought of this in very simple terms with reference to the fight-or-flight response.
Male response is fight.
Female is flight.
Which makes a lot of sense when you think about it.Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this. -
houseoftolstoy@merovingian.club's status on Monday, 20-Feb-2023 11:05:24 JST houseoftolstoy @WashedOutGundamPilot No way this is real. I saw Captain Marvel and in that movie, Brie Larson's character was the best pilot ever. And we all know Marvel movies are super accurate to reality, as 110 lb women also regularly take down linebacker sized men in real life too.
This does show that there is a whole lot more to pilot capabilities than G force tolerance. Maybe having more testosterone is critical for dealing with high stress scenarios such as flying a fighter jet?

John Rando (john_rando@poa.st)'s status on Monday, 20-Feb-2023 12:50:58 JST John Rando @RupertvonRipp @WashedOutGundamPilot @rlier23 I had a similar experience working at a water treatment plant. I was troubleshooting a leaking pneumatic line in a filter gallery, and as soon as I just barely touched the leaking line it ruptured completely. Now, I wasn’t in any physical danger because of this. However, a massive air leak like that could possibly result in complete loss of air pressure for the rest of the pneumatic actuators in that filter gallery. I mean, the compressors MIGHT be able to keep up, but they’re old and who knows? This could have crippled the plant, as of the other two filter galleries, one was down for overhaul and the other didn’t have capacity to make up for the shortfall.
I didn’t have time to think about all this though, as I was busy scrambling up onto a 30” pipe to reach the valve that supplied air for that particular filter. As soon as I closed it the hissing stopped and the gallery was quiet again. It took me a moment to fully process what happened. To be honest what shocked me the most was how little I recalled of that episode. I just remember the line rupturing, the loud hiss, me being up on the pipe and seeing my hand pull the handle on the valve to shut it. No deliberate thought was involved during this entire process, I just /did the thing/
