When Rakus, an orangutan at the Suaq Project in Medan, Indonesia, had a nasty wound below his right eye, the animal knew exactly what to do. Scientists observed Rakus pluck and chew up leaves of a medicinal plant, then use his fingers to apply it to the injured area. Within a month, the wound had closed.
