@MK2boogaloo
Ithere are a couple decent books involving him that ive read, and in my own research he seems a little overblown on the crazier side (he probably didnt literally believe he was the reincarnation of ghengis khan or an incarnation of the mongolian god of war, he probably didnt crash the economy quite as badly as is often said, and his brutality was more common than a lot of people think) but he was still a wild man.
he was a militant buddhist who had lead a small group of "war buddhists" that abstained from sex but were allowed to drink and smoke opium as much a sx they wanted. he did talk about raising an army of horsemen and sweeping across russia to destroy communism.
one story that people seem to agree on is when he caught 3 soldiers looting the mongolian capitol after he put a moritorium in place, he had them all hung outside the shop they looted from and only took the bodies down a few days later when the shop owner complained that it was hurting business.
the two books i read are "beasts men and gods" and "asian odyssey" whish were memoirs of people who happened to meet him, but are more about the craziness of mongolia at the time with all the pogroms and spies, and the politics of mongolian buddhism in full swing.
