former Norwegian chief of defence Sverre Diesen on Israel:
> Diesen considers that if Israel continues its current policy, it will lead itself into a situation where it can choose between two options that are equally bad:
>
> - They can remain a Jewish state, but in that case it must become an illiberal apartheid state where the Palestinians are treated as second-class citizens, or they can accept a state where the Palestinians are in the majority and will thus dominate politics, says Diesen to VG and continues:
>
> - It will probably result in Israel developing into a state that will not necessarily be particularly democratic, religiously tolerant or competently governed compared to the current Israeli government.
so, as i understand it, he's picturing a scenario where Israel annexes Gaza and treats it like a province.
Benjamin Netanyahu recently said that when the warfare stops, Israel will assume responsibility for security in Gaza. later, it was added that Israel isn't going to reoccupy Gaza, but demilitarise it. the US also thinks Israel can't reoccupy Gaza.
somewhat mixed messages, if you ask me. how can you be responsible for the security of an area without occupying it?
