So the semifinals have been decided. After another 2-day break, these will be the matches:
Sunday: Samus VS Reimu
Monday: Tamamo (Fate/Extra) VS Ryza
Samus and Reimu both put up God-Tier performances in their quarterfinal matches, with Reimu scoring by far the biggest blowout of the round, while Samus also scored a huge win over a very strong opponent in Momiji, whose fanbase kept supporting her to the bitter end.
On the other hand, the two following matches were far more competitive - Tamamo managed to overcome 2B in a wild clash where 2B took and maintained a massive lead for quite a while, but Tamamo managed to erase it fairly quickly once her own push truly got going, and eventually built herself a massive lead, at one point leading 2B 56% - 44% after well over 200 votes. A win of that size over someone like 2B would easily have cemented Tamamo as the favorite to win it all, but 2B came back and made the final result much closer, a 51% - 49% win for Tamamo in a match that saw a ridiculous number of votes.
Patchouli VS Ryza ended up being even more of a nail-biter, as well as a dirty, brutal match in every way imaginable. Was the final result legitimate? The earlier matches indicated that Patchouli was slightly stronger, then again, take away the cheated votes and her result against May might have been identical to Ryza's win over Dawn, and Ryza led for almost the entire match, so they ultimately seemed to boast near-identical levels of strength. I also think a lot of people REALLY didn't want to see Touhou girls in BOTH of our semifinal matches.
In the end, whether cheating or anti-Touhou voting proved decisive, Ryza won, the low seed heroine becoming one of the biggest stories of this tournament, though she will have a mountain to climb against Tamamo.
