Why do I still use "ifconfig" even though it's deprecated under #Linux?
Because "ip addr show" is just too much typing! I'm an old-school user, I like my commands short, sweet, and to the point. Besides, "ifconfig" still works, so why change? It's like using a rotary phone... sure, it's outdated, but it still makes calls!
But seriously, you should probably learn ip properly one of these days... https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-ip-command-examples-usage-syntax/
Need to see your routing table on #macOS or #FreeBSD or #Linux ? Type:
netstat -rn
The entry with the "G" flag is your gateway. #Linux users may want to use the ip command (look for "default" entry which is your gateway):
ip route show

Ugh 😤 ip command is the most significant change in Linux since they deprecated the ifconfig, a standard command on unix-like systems such as macOS, freebsd, and others. Check out my ip command guide https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-ip-command-examples-usage-syntax/ for more info.
me when Linux terminal says "ifconfig has been officially deprecated for the ip suite https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-ip-command-examples-usage-syntax/ " #linux #unix #opensource
