Keep in mind I’m an amateur, though I do know a couple crash investigator guys at work. Most of the time when I ask them they just shrug and say “wait for the report”.
Russkie planes are funky in the turbines, their engines need upkeep that is much more costly here, so I could definitely see it being legal the way they’re running it, but probably pretty threadbare to an old soviet tech who knew the airframe. When you work on complex aircraft, you need expertise, and taking these planes out of their homeland, where the only people who understand them live, just to translate the manuals into english is inviting calamity.
Gimme a sergei who crew chiefed for a Mig 23 unit for 40 years and I’ll buy into the idea these things are in a fine fettle. But overall I chalk it up to “eh, stuff breaks on a russian fighter and they don’t handle well like that, you ought to eject if you wanna live” since that’s basically what india’s learned.
