If you want to cherry-pick quotes, though, Tacitus was just one guy (a historian that had never been there) also referred to them as a people who delight in war (see attached). Caesar, who had been there, said that they didn't even have mud huts, that they were impulsive and undisciplined, short-sighted, and that they "after having sued for peace by way of stratagem and treachery, had made war without provocation".
