We're at episode 2 of the Rurouni Kenshin remake, I think it's alright so far, even though it could also be better. I think one thing I like so far is how much the new series pulls back Kenshin's speed, he is now very much perceptible but clearly faster than his opponents, with minimal usage of disappear + speed lines trick that much of the 90s used to depict speed. Not that the 90s version was bad, or not entertaining, just that it created a lot of problems later down the line for depicting opponents who are supposed to be faster than Kenshin, and wasn't a problem unique to this series.
As far as faithfulness to the source material, I never read the source material, so I can't really comment and make comparisons.
