The other thing I remember from the GG era with regards to indie games was the flop of Sunset.
Long story short, some artfag game studio named Tale of Tales made this game called Sunset and it was a colossal flop. It got shilled by gaming sites, but the truth is gamers and the public at large don't care about some "art game" or "walking simulator". It ticked off all the ESG score and art grant boxes, but the truth is artfags think modern art is the turd shit nobody cares about at your local art gallery instead of premium sprite art, games with a good art direction, or old school arcade cab art/backglass art/box art. So it was a shitty game about some black indentured servant or some shit in a shithole country and who cares about it anyway because it didn't even sell 5,000 copies or something and the studio had a rage fueled blog post whining at their audience.
They also can't make good games because their influences and life experiences suck, and the same goes with game influences. Unless you're making a VN the game has to be playable, and with VNs you'd better make sure to give it good art/music/story so that people give a shit. Then people will think wow this game has a great soundtrack until they look up the wikipedia page and find out it's from a porn game 😂
