   @MelGibsonafter4Beers It’s this kind of thing that has left me so disappointed in our wannabe leaders today. To date I have yet to see any who have real, timelessly human experience under their belt. A real epochal leader needs to understand the fullest breadth of the soul he possibly can, and you can only do that through some pretty painful living. Seeing the highs, the lows, the crushing failures and the one-off triumphs allows you to truly love the men you’re leading. You empathize deeper, you understand and appreciate the men you lead, you treasure their fealty and inspire them to greatness they wouldn’t tap into on their own.

   That kind of man cannot be forged in the comforts of suburbia. He needs to lead a life that fits in the long arc of mankind. He needs to see and feel the most basic, fundamentally human experiences that everyone had before modern comforts robbed us of them - hunger, abysmal disappointment, despair, fury, hate, hope, triumph, and joy. The more he experiences, the more accurately his internal thermometer is calibrated.
