What you said is true, but also consider a fourth reason, which is that they *have* to not really understand our ideas when they have their supervisor looking over their shoulder.
Someone who genuinely understands what we believe in, spells it out, and argues against it from that frame, would be a thought criminal. Even if he is on their side.
To even acknowledge the ideas as they are, even just to refute them, constitutes a thought crime. Is there a single hollywood movie that depicts their political enemies honestly? It's always distorted.
