   tired of wasting money on streaming devices to serve media that's local on disk? i was too. this example of a thinkpad being turned into a "server" works well for direct play on a tv (in my case a portable 14" monitor). i don't have a remote setup for it yet and not sure i care (yet). but it plays things really well without having to struggle-bus with jellyfin interfaces poorly implemented on all platforms.
   
   it's also serving up a password manager, syncthing backup storage, and a git server. free ups included, so long as the old battery doesn't kaboom on me.
