Gaming on linux has never been so easy, so say those who have been doing it for years, and the truth is that I have been pleasantly surprised, I thought I should forget about playing, Lutris (https://lutris.net/) is an application to run games with better compatibility, it uses its own version of wine optimized to play and can help a lot when the games do not run correctly with the system wine.
there are many tutorials on the internet for lutris and certain games, a while ago I tried World of warcraft and it works great using lutris, I am currently playing The thing, an old survival horror game that gave me problems when running it with wine alone because the screen did not load correctly with video problems, but using lutris the game opened without video problems and works perfect, so I have tried some other games and so far all have worked without problems so my experience using lutris has been excellent.
i have read in many sites that linux tends to give problems with nvidia graphics cards so it may be advisable to check if your card works properly in the distribution you plan to install, or just try it and that's it, if you have no hardware problems you may be able to play your favorite games without problems using lutris and with some extra configuration steps that are easy to find on the internet.
Gaming has also improved a lot thanks to Steam, being able to install it on linux and use its tool proton (similar to wine) to run games with many titles working correctly and without problems.
I am not the most indicated since I don't usually play modern games, but I have been pleasantly surprised to run some of the games I like on linux and see that it is possible to play on linux and probably all this will improve even more in the future.
