We only want to rewind time for one reason. We say it is about honor, justice, revenge, regret, redemption... but this is a facade. It is always love that drives us. Tradition and heritage are the twin boat anchors that moor us to history. But we cannot help ourselves. We love the way things were, or at least the way that those things use to make us feel.
But there is no love in the past. The past is a blur of snapshots, memories only viewed through rose colored glasses. It is rarely more than deranged nostalgia. The past will rot your mind, leaving you to marinate in the defeat of never being able to relive it. It will consume your soul, but reject your flesh, leaving you a zombie enslaved to your idealized memories. The present, with all of its possibilities, trials, challenges, and pains, is the only real presence we can have, and the only place where love is real.
Do not yearn for days long dead. We cannot turn back time, nor should we try. We can only rehabilitate ourselves from the events of the past, and learn from ourselves and others. Look forward to escape your defeats, and seek new triumphs.
