FIVE THINGS TO QUESTION ABOUT SFPD'S DRONE USE FISCAL COST How much will drones really cost? How many hours will officers spend deploying drones? What work will they drop to do this? UNWARRANTED POLICING Currently, drones can be used in any "critical incidents" and "planned operations." How is this defined? Will we allow spying anytime SFPD plans something? PRIVACY Will we allow drone observation of private space without the use of a search warrant? How will we protect people's privacy? FIRST AMENDMENT PROTECTIONS Drones could potentially be used to watch First Amendment rights demonstrations. How can we make sure people engaged in protected speech aren't being surveilled? VIOLATING STATE LAW Why has SFPD skirted state law AB 481, which required that the Board of Supervisors approve their drone policy before they acquired them? Why are they lying to the public about this?
