   Finished volume 1. Opening lines were appropriate, this book was about a self hating white girl managing a motley militia of (metaphorical) mulattos, mestizos, and melungeons mounted in mechas in their war against robot zombies which they are destined to be defeated due to their discrimination. As far as I can tell this is a fantasy world, so it was kind of strange when all of the metaphorical brown characters talked about how much they hated Christianity and the Bible, one of the main characters specifically disparaging Jesus Christ, but I guess it’s important to attack Christianity in these sorts of stories regardless of the sensibility of it. The author, unsurprisingly since he’s Japanese, doesn’t really get liberalism, and makes a lot of mistakes when representing his beliefs, most significantly the mistaken belief that racism is just power politics and can be turned on or off by the government at any moment for political goals, and the idea that whites (and on some level you could extrapolate this to the Japanese themselves in their own cultural context in their corner of the world) will be treated as equals with respect and dignity if they shed their racial chauvinism and throw open their gates to let the world in.
   
   Aside from the politics, this was among the better light novels I’ve read, good prose, memorable characters, fun action, the drama with the brothers was delightfully tragic, very Sasuke/Itachi.
   
   I especially liked how the communication was described, like voice chat but with an added overlay of a psycho-spiritual connection that can heighten and lessen in certain circumstances, and it makes me feel like the light novel might be the best way to tell this story, since that’s harder to convey in manga or anime. I’m always impressed when a light novel can justify its existence over the other formats.
   
   Listening to this audiobook was a good reminder that it’s kind of lucky that in America our jewish media got really shitty at the same time it got relentlessly gay, because bad values conveyed in compelling stories are much more dangerous than bad values in retarded stories.
   
   Overall, if you don’t mind that it’s niggerfaggot liberal globohomo satanic garbage then I say give it a listen.
