@MemeLandfill @WashedOutGundamPilot Too edgy for me. Angular instead of round and space agey, unnecessary lines, kunai and ribbon grip katana? No thanks.
The Zaku already has enough attitude and personality from it's hooded shifty cyclopes eye. The extra spikes and contours to the armour make it lean more into a rhinoceros beetle look than a space scuba diver.
Not much a fan of the 'sallet' style of helmet either, prefer either the 'Stahlhelm' or 'kabuto' variants if anything at all, but the rule for the Zaku's aesthetic is generally: simple=better. This allows for modularity which lends itself to a much more realistic military aesthetic.
If you are to modify it, make it look like an off the shelf last ditch retrofit or manipulate the bulkiness of some parts as if it's a later model with larger reactors or something like pictured here. The Psycho Zaku has some of this philosophy, staying very close to the base zaku-2, but despite it's bulky upgrades which are fine and seem very utilitarian compared to elegant federation design, it too has all that unnecessary detailing drawing the eye away from the actual parts and towards the superfluous colours, pads, ribs and lines. Notice specifically the skirt and useless outlining of the pauldrons. It's like a CSGO skin which makes useless panelling pop more than the components, destroying the aesthetic.
I kinda like the Kai here because it looks racier and more powerful with it's extra vents and muscular upper torso which looks like it could comfortably rotate robotically instead of looking like a suit of armour containing a man; a more natural evolution of the base design. Reminds me of the Griffon spits upgraded from the Merlins or the Ta-152 from the FW-190.
