This marble figure is known as the 'Keros Harpist', and I first came across it in the National Archaeological Museum, in Athens.
Despite its startlingly 'modern' appearance, it was made in the Early Bronze Age, in the Cycladic period, and is, unbelievably, almost 5,000 years old.
I found it both compellingly beautiful and deeply moving, and spent a considerable time admiring it - mostly on the verge of tears...
