The whole reason we enmeshed our economy so tightly with China to the point that true separation is still impossible to imagine, is that we believed deeply that economic growth and development would lead to political liberalization and democracy.
We bet on the trueness of liberal ideology. Today it's more than obvious in more ways than one, that we lost that bet.
The failure of American military might to transform the Iraqi and Afghani societies into freedom respecting and liberty loving ones over two decades of fighting also of course proves it.
Now we no longer have anything left to "bet" with. American hegemony was squandered and wasted. China today is as the US was in 1940. We wouldn't stand a chance in a war, especially a long one.
If the US begins sanctions against China for it's support of Russia, it'll only hurt us and make war all the more inevitable.
