@graf @j @matrix @tyler j's preoccupation with hipster video codecs means I can't see this, but before my video player's complaints got excessive, I heard the explanation.
Rick Beato pointed out the problem with most popular music nowadays is that they have the same people writing it that were wrote music that was popular in the 90s, then they quantize it so the beat happens on a grid, the vocals and guitar are snapped to the grid. They may as well have a robot doing it at this point if the idea is to regurgitate the things that sold well over the last 30 years.
