If you read books on polar exploration you'll often see "Captain So-and-So was an idiot because he didn't do what the Eskimos did," and then you'll read further and oh, Captain So-and-So did adapt a few Eskimo things that he thought useful, though he made errors, and carried more White ideas with him, so while the Eskimos went around killing seals and caribou around their shitty homes Captain So-and-So was journeying thousands of miles into animalless lands and if he died, it was because his ambition was greater than sitting around eating raw meat until he turned 50 and was cast out to die.
