   I understand the sentiment at its core, the need to respect the guys who came before you, but this is excessive, isn't it? If I were this guy I'd be pissed, it's a ton of hullabaloo for one run of the mill guy.

   This procession isn't even respecting grandpa's service (ostensibly aimed at protecting you & yours), this is religious worship of the american GI as an avatar of righteousness, the antifascist vanquisher of evil whiteness. This is a ceremony of the American Faith, the pop culture expression of people wanting to indulge in something sacred and elevated in a country where they're allowed very few things to feel reverence for.

   The guy being taken here is "one of the last survivors of pearl harbor", as in....not a Medal of Honor winner, not a Star holder, just some teenager who was on base during the attacks.
