Photograph of an adult and a juvenile Emperor Angelfish swimming side by side. They are colorful fish that are rather rectangular in shape, aside from a pointy mouth sticking out on one side and a tail protruding from the other. The pattern and colors differ greatly between the juvenile and the adult. The juvenile has a dark blue body which is marked with concentric curving lines, alternating between pale blue, black and white. The dorsal fin has a white margin and the caudal fin is transparent. The adult is striped with blue and yellow horizontal stripes, a light blue face with a dark blue mask over the eyes, and a yellow caudal fin. There is a blackish band above the pectoral fins, the top of which is just above the level of the eye. The front margin of this band is bright blue and the rear margin is a thin yellow line. The anal fin has a dark blue background with lighter blue horizontal stripes. The juvenile is much smaller than the adult, and looks to be saying "wow, I'm gonna look like that‽" (Photo credit: Fabrice Bettex)
