Gonna rant about Chinese culture for a minute. This is an old but pretty great read on just how alien their behaviors are.

Appearance is everything, but practically everyone knows it's just a show. It's barely even a "trick," because no one's really expected to follow through on how they present themselves. The standard expectation is that any stranger you're talking to is lying.
Because of this, they're highly suspicious of one another and always assuming there's some kind of scam at play. Falling for one is a point of embarrassment that will get you laughed at, and it's only expected of children to be so foolish. If you successfully cheated somebody, it was a good action. They deserved it for trusting you. You actively did a good thing by parting fools from their money.
Additionally, there's this western idea that it's good to forgive, and grudges should fade over time. In China, the understanding is the opposite. The longer you waited before getting revenge, the more legitimate it was, and the more the other person deserved it. They are a nation of calculating psychopaths who have empathy beaten out of them from infancy.
