Examination of the 1.2m tsunami measured earlier shows a flat line after the 1.2m peak. "The natural world is never that stable; we think the sensor failed after that 1.2m point, so we don't yet know that peak's true height," comments their expert.
Analysis of sea levels at various tsunami-affected points shows movement consistent with tsunami activity, though NHK notes that the normal evening tide is presently coming in as well, muddying the analysis somewhat.
The NHK continues to urge people to not return home based on calm-looking images; aftershocks may continue for several days which may push OK-looking buildings past the point of collapse, and these may yet cause a larger earthquake in the coming days.
Various warnings about keeping warm, carbon monoxide poisoning, and so forth are also included.
